5th Edition of the Alt. +1000 Festival
Climb the mountains, plant a cross or a refuge, work the land on slopes … The human being has, for a long time, left its mark on the summits. This trace of the humans on the mountain is at the very heart of the 5th edition of the festival Alt. + 1000.
For many, Alt. + 1000 evokes the charming village of Rossinière in Switzerland. From 2008 to 2015, the festival took up residence in the barns, cottages and trails, to exhibit photographs on the theme of the mountain.
This year, the festival moves to the Neuchâtel mountains, on three sites also located at 1000 meters Alt.itude: the Museum of Fine Arts of Le Locle, the farm of Grand-Cachot-de-Vent and Lake Taillères. As at Rossinière, the event proposes a sharp photographic walk in a remarkable landscape.
Nearly 80 Swiss and international photographers present their work, from Kurt Caviezel’s webcams to Monique Jacot’s peasant women, through the Arnaud Teicher passes or the Renate Aller reconstructed peaks. At the Museum of Fine Arts of Le Locle, a large exhibition tracks the mountains in the wonderful archives of the agency Magnum. Ultimate trace of the human presence, global warming is tackled by the collective Project Pressure: at the initiative of photographer Klaus Thymann, fifteen artists including Edward Burtynski, Simon Norfolk or Noémie Goudal document the melting of glaciers with an approach sometimes very visual.
